Prospective Families - Our Middle/High School

Curriculum At Ridgeview Christian, we believe that curriculum should bend to the needs of the student, not the other way around. No curriculum is perfect. We seek to find the best curriculum possible for each class and each subject. Our top priorities when evaluating curriculum are academic excellence and harmony with the truths of God's Word. We are not married to a particular curriculum and will make decisions based on what will best benefit our students now and in the future. Our elementary classes primarily use A Beka Books.
Our textbook providers include:
- A Beka Books
- ACSI
- Bob Jones Press
- Glencoe
- Horizons
- McDoughal
- Positive Action
Dual Enrollment Courses Beginning with the class of 2015, Honor students will take dual enrollment courses through Liberty University Online. Honors student will graduate with an estimated 30 hours of college credit. Additional fees will apply.
High School Athletics At Ridgeview Christian School, we believe team sports can be a tremendous laboratory for life. Most student athletes will not need to know how to dribble a basketball or "dig" a volleyball in their careers as an adult. But every student will need to know how to work with others on a team, stay calm in pressured circumstances, and work hard to prepare for whatever they do in life.
Our teams compete on the Middle School, Junior Varsity and Varsity levels. We compete in the Virginia Association of Christian Athletics (VACA) conference. Our Fall sports include Boy's Soccer and Girl's Volleyball. Our Winter Sports include Boy's and Girl's Basketball. And our spring sports include Boy's Baseball and Girl's Soccer.
All of our coaches are volunteers who have not only been screened and background checked, but also have been chosen because they seek to honor the Lord in these coaching opportunities. They focus on not only training the athlete, but training the leader and student within.
High School Retreat A few weeks into the year, our 7th through 12th grade students and teachers embark on a 3-day retreat to start the year off focused on the Lord. This retreat takes place at Camp Bethel near Roanoke. This unique setting combines the beauty of God's nature with the truth of God's Word. The retreat is staffed by our Middle and High School faculty which builds the bond and changes the dynamic of how our teachers and students interact. The focus of these special events will always include a combination of teaching the plan of salvation as well as challenging the believer.
Spiritual Development We are not just a school. We are not even just a Christian school. We are an educational ministry. We do not separate out class time and God time, but rather, the principles of God's Word are infused into the entire learning experience for our students. Special attention to the Lord is given in three distinct programs:
Bible Class All of our students are required to take a Bible class, in every semester, of every grade, Kindergarten through 12th grade. The basic teachings of the Bible are taught with focus given to how those truths apply to the individual lives of each student. While different curricula have been used in our classes, work is underway to coordinate all of the Bible classes throughout the entire school into one comprehensive program, customized to the needs and makeup of Ridgeview Christian School.
Chapel
Even though the truths of God's Word permeate all of our classes, each week we set aside time to come together to worship God through singing praises together and opening up the Bible under the teaching of a chapel speaker. We provide separate chapels for lower elementary, upper elementary and middle/high School. In chapel, students have the opportunity to hear a message relevant to their lives and unique situations where God's Word is center stage. Chapel speakers include various staff of RCS and Ridgeview Baptist Church, various local pastors, and special speakers brought in from out of town. We believe that training young christian leaders includes more than engaging the mind. It also involves engaging the heart and the soul. Chapel is one way in which this is accomplished.
Online Classes At Ridgeview Christian School, we look to leverage technology to our students' advantage. A newer program to RCS is our online classes. All of our online classes are provided through a fully accredited program, Alpha Omega Publishers. These online classes are supervised through a state of the art online monitoring and communication system built into the online classroom experience.
These classes are not a substitute to the traditional classroom setting, but offer opportunities in unique class credit situations including credit recovery and extra courses not offered during our regular school schedule.
The online class program is also used in our Summer School Program. Summer School is available in five-week sessions for students in 3rd grade and higher. Cost of Summer School is $225 per session. Summer School is available to any students who struggled in the regular class through the previous school year, as well as students needing credit recovery. This program is especially helpful for students who have transferred in to Ridgeview Christian from a school that utilizes block scheduling.
